The WORST thing that could EVER happen to borderlands is making it an esport!

They said that about WoW too. You agree there?

Yea that was a complete failure too, but this is a different game all together. This is an Action rpg, one that is meant to be broken and imbalanced for the sake of unreasonable amounts of body count. When this game has to be changed so that everything is ‘balanced’ half the fun will just be gone

Hrmm. Going to have to disagree, especially about wow pvp being a complete failure. It’s arguably the most popular aspect of WoW, has a huge following, and millions of people who play only for Arena.

Not that I think Borderlands is all that similar to WoW at all, but a LOT of people agree that PvP is fun in the game, and with some real support, could make the game more than twice the fun.

In borderlands Brick will almost always win in duels. Because of this once Borderlands becomes competitive people will beg him to be nerfed. And after that starts people will want OTHER classes to become balanced.

In this game there are obviously overpowered aspects that are really fun while solo playing, in pvp those are suddenly not OK. Then those have to become “balanced.”

One of the things that makes this game so great is that at certain times you can turn into a massive cloud of destruction but you still have to be good to beat the game over all. in pvp you can just choose that time to become that cloud, and now that that cloud is instant win in pvp its no longer ok to have in the game.

And yes, WoW had a massive pvp following, but the changes made to that game for arena reasons caused huge problems with the main focus of the game which was pve. And no matter how much people like to argue, WoW pvp is not very good. It was an after-thought and trying to make that game into a pvp game was like fitting a circular block in a square hole. (people still play wow for raiding, doesn’t mean that’s any good anymore) Trying to fit the Circular peg of Borderlands Action Rpg into the square hole of Competitive fps is the same problem, its possible but you gotta take a whole lot off.

But as of now i guess in-truth my argument is mostly speculation based on past events. But i bet if Borderlands continues to become an esport we will start to see changes made for the wrong reasons.

Not sure what noobs you are playing with, but if brick is beating Lilith in your duels, they are some of the worst. It’s pretty much unanimous that Lilith is the best for arena, and duels for that matter. If you aren’t getting 1-shotted by her, then the player is not doing it right.

The game already needs a rebalance. Soldiers suck. Bloodwing 1shots most everyone. Lilith is the strongest class.

There is no reason that the rebalance of the game can’t please both PVP and PVE players. Even if they do need to be seperate, they already are, just like in WoW, so there is no reason that there can’t be two balances to the game, one for pve and one for pvp.

I am not sure why people get worried that putting focus on pvp is going to ruin the rest of the game. All the games that Borderlands borrows from have very substantial focus on PvP, and it makes those games better.

First of all the games Borderlands barrowed from had either A) No pvp or B) Very bad pvp, if we’re even thinking of the same games. Plus even if lilith is the more overpowered one, just put in Lilith where i said brick and it still means the same. I haven’t played in arena yet because its a mini-game, I’m busy playing the real game (elitist comments +1).

You know what? lets just end this stupid argument here and let future events decide, agreed?

I think pvp in WoW was a great aspect, It allows the game to apeal to all kinds of players. However I did not like arenas. And when they made arenas the big deal of pvp I flipped, I’m glad to see that their going to make Battler grounds more of a big deal, and its good to see that they have some online pvp set up for borderlands. But I think they need something like BGs. Something that’ll get a bunch of players together. Now nothing more than ten people on each side, but a respectably battle ground would be nice.

As Gearbox has stated several times, the fans of the game are what they are looking to, to shape the future of borderlands. So no, let’s not just see what happens, there is a very large outcry for PvP at the Gearbox Forums, especially in the “what do you want to see” threads.

And you are completely mistaken about the games borderlands borrowing from having poor pvp. There are two main influences, any FPS, and Diablo. Of course all FPS have PvP elements, and diablo had a huge one as well. So, whether you think diablo’s pvp is poor or not, you can’t deny it is a large part of the game, and didn’t have a negative influence, positive if any. You surely wouldn’t deny that competitive multiplayer in FPS games is poor, since it is the main aspect of most modern day ones.

I don’t care what class you are, it’s all the weapons. I have 5 weapons that will easily do +1500 damage. And with Hunter I can avoid shields. So assuming I get first shot or my enemy doesn’t 1 shot me , I win.
